I believe that this is the reason why its so quiet. The last genuine region take-over was AAA gobbling up Catch. I don't think any alliances are gonna take any chances from now to Kali, nobody is going to want to get caught with their pants down when Kali arrives.
As for the alt posting, i believe that is barking up the wrong tree. The most vicious threads are actually started by mains, because they have a genuine point to make and are aimed at the jugular of their oponent.
Its quiet atm, cause nobody is doing any hardcore fighting, where reputations and territory are at stake.

I have read JC's posts and eloquent and lucid as they are, I do believe she is missing something.
I'm going to try and explain what it is...
I think that for one thing a lot of vets are looking at EVE through jaded eyes... its easy to fall into the trap of believing that things used to be better. Whilst lag is a horrendous problem for territorial warfare in this day and age, there are examples where territorial warfare has been completed successfully. Mainly where MC and BoB are concerned. Ofc one could argue that they chose their targets smartly.
Im going off on a tangent....
If we take a moment to examine the big four I think we will find that infact the game mechanics are working as intended, i.e empire building. CCP has stated that their intention is to promote the formation of empire blocks.
BoB - Highly motivated compact and determined. They have managed to secure vast swathes of territory and have "colonised" them with friendly entities e.g Xelas, FIX and other friendly corporations.
D2 - D2 have managed to mesh together a miriad of alliances in a pretty powerful northern block. All alliances in D2 have good relations with D2.
LV - Similar story to D2 they have put together an impressive list of allied entities that will fight together against a common enemy.
ASCN - More defensively oriented they have built a vast stronghold in the south.
All four of these blocks have shored up and dug in pretty deep via slightly different methods. You gotta ask yourself why? It would seem that they are doing something wrong, sapping the life out of the game?
Well I just don't think that is the case.. I believe they are aware of the sheer firepower that could possibly be brought to bear against them by one of the other 4 blocks that could unite together to wreak havoc on the first one to show weakness. These four blocks can field silly amounts of capital ships at will.
I think we are seeing a genuine development of what could be effectively considered nation states.
I for one find that pretty exciting.
Will they go to war sometime soon? I don't know. I'd put money on Kali being a catalyser for some pretty amazing political and military developments. And even if its quiet right now.. it won't last....
..ofc I could be completely wrong and EVE is screwed ..

POS warfare sucks, blob wars are not much fun.
I believe this is an interesting statement from a pilot in one of the big 4 power blocks/empires/nation states.
But I have a question for you.
If you believe that pos warfare sucks and that blob wars are boring... then what are you doing in ASCN?
We all know that ASCN has a number of Outposts that boggles the mind. The amount of POS supporting your outpost network must be formidable. You are the biggest alliance in the game (at least on paper), it would therefore be reasonable to assume that if you wanted to you could form the biggest fleets or 'blobs'.
Cyvok and the rest of ASCN leadership obviously have a game plan. I very much doubt Cyvok is finding EVE boring atm...
I don't believe that being in ASCN is boring atm either. It must be pretty exciting. You are one of the EVE powerhouses and all the infrastructure you have in place has a purpose.
What is the purpose of all this infastructure and number of able and willing pilots? .... well I suppose its for you guys to know and us (those watching from the sidelines) to find out or speculate on.

heh.. it was never my intention to suggest it was, however it is most certainly a part of your defensive tactics and rightly so, you have the power to field very large fleets and isk to deploy innumerable POS'.
Its a part of ASCN's armoury if you will.
And I guess this ties in with the point I was making earlier... a nation state such as ASCN *will* use available game mechanics (large fleets/POS) to further its goals of dominance.
EVE has become a game that truly encompasses all aspects of PVP, from the honourable 1 v 1, to economic market competition and now to PVP on the nation state scale, where to break one of these entrenched mega entities will take all the blood sweat and tears you can muster.

Of course, it'll never happen. I highly doubt the technology even exists.. and if it did, those of us in the alliances are still the minority of the playerbase.. until the empire dwelling, mission running, majority start cancelling their accounts in droves, nothing will ever change.. and us old dogs that live out on the rim, that have given this game it's excitement for the past 3 years, will continue to fade away.
ofc that would be the ideal scenario.. huge battles.. no lag .. it would be truly awesome..
Unfortunately you are probably right in saying that the technology is probably not there and won't be for the forseeable future and in addition it could possibly need a complete re-working of the game, and we would end up with something that wasn't actually EVE.
The only way I can think of getting past the whole lag issue is by role-playing it. Lag is a bit like the fog of war... the bigger the numbers involved the more complicated things get and the more disorienting it is for the foot soldier and the more difficult it is for the commander to control. So I think what tends to happen is that the smart FC's will try and balance out lag vs numbers advantage.. cause if you bring too big a blob you could very well lag yourself out and it would be counter productive.
Having said that I have limited experience with fleets over 200... perhaps one of the EVE FC's that has been in command of mega fleets 300+ can tell us wether its really worth getting a fleet that big together in the first place?

Out of all the posts so far I think DigitalCommunist's is my favourite.
He raises some big issues...
Empire living vs 0.0 PVE vs PVP Isksinks vs Inflation Risk vs Reward
I guess EVE has become a highly complex game looking to cater for a miriad of game-play styles. Some players will never want to pvp and thus will never look to leave empire properly.
If you make 0.0 highly lucrative and empire not at all then CCP could find themselves losing a large number of players and thats bad for business.
If you have too much PVE content then you are introducing more ways to generate isk and inflation goes up, if you have too little of it you will see the non-pvpers start to leave the game.
If its too hard to make isk, the new players will find the advancement curve in EVE too high and wil never make it to vet status, yet at the same time too much reward for advancing players makes isk in EVE worthless, increasing inflation.
Again if the risk vs reward is not balanced you can get spiraling inflation if reward is too high, but you are really making it hard for newer players if the risk is too high.
The issues CCP are having to deal with as the game grows are truly complex approaching those of running a RL nation. IMHO we should be very grateful that EVE and its progression so far is not much much worse than it is.
4 years on and ISK is a more valuable currency than that of many RL nations unit per unit.
One thing that Jasmine got completely right IMO in her posts was her conclusion that for the vets particularly, Role Playing is the item that will keep EVE fresh. The advent of the big 4 player empires/nation blocks is what should keep us interested in the game. The vets should be able to sympathise with CCP and the problems they are facing with a game this complex and really cut them some slack and be a little more pro-active in role playing their way through problems, whilst waiting for CCP to deal with the big issues, which they can only do in small increments as big failures could kill the game altogether.
Vets have the responsability IMO to help CCP keep the game fresh and interesting by coming up with ways to role-play the big issues, i.e LAG, empire building with jingoistic tendencies, merc work.. etc.. (what the MC have achieved is a brilliant example of this IMO).
I think we have to believe that CCP are doing the best they possibly can to nurture EVE into future viability, and thus try and overcome problems via player created roleplay.
This might sound like a crazy idea but lets look at LAG for a second...
Who is to say that the 4 player nation states/empire blocks, can't put together a LAG treaty stating that no single fleet shall surpass the 200? mark. An EVE LAG treaty.. to be upheld as a matter of honour. Perhaps this would encourage nation states to attack from several directions at once instead of the usual blob up tactics.
Stuff like that..

Not speaking for my alliance here, but why would the 4 big alliances act like the bloody UN fighting with one hand tied behind their back while everybody else gets to exploit as they please?
Well the entities that have the ability to blob the most are actually the big 4. If the big 4 agreed to limit fleet sizes to something that the servers can handle then the smaller entites could be forced to follow suit.
Example : Alliance X decides to break the treaty with a 250 man fleet..... the big 4 could then show their displeasure by wiping them off the face of the galaxy....
Likewise if one of the big 4 broke the treaty, it could be an excuse for the other 3 to reduce them to rubble....
Like a said just an idea and probably a crazy one at that

what you trying to do, get this thread locked too? ... the guy posted without displaying corp info, which is clearly a breach of the forum rules.
Btw so is openly discussing moderation... which you just did.

I mean, we can criticize the devs, disagree with nerfs/boosts etc, thats all fine. But the sec it comes to mods - its locked right away? lol, are they oversensitive? or.. what?
Why cant mods be criticized just like the devs are?
maybe this will answer your question..

I do not assume people will start flaming the moderator team when they discuss forum moderation. I know they will simply because they've done so in every single case where we've allowed it. And we don't have the resources to monitor those threads 24/7 which is what would be required for us to keep them open.
follow the rules or don't post its pretty simple....

tbh as far as the topic that you repeatedly keep trying to raise is concerned, what *you* think does not matter.

@ kcel, I think you gotta point there, inflation is a problem for any economy, even an in-game economy.
How to solve it and balance out many other factors such as allowing new players to get into the game quickly enough and catch up with the vets within an acceptable time frame is quite the issue.
Whilst at the early stages of the game it was much harder to make cash, the upside was that a lot more people were in the same situation i.e starting out.
Now if a new player joins EVE there are vets with up to 40+ mil sp and with many billions in their wallets and in assets. (Sadly I'm not one of these .. I'm way behind on my training, never used implants properly and have never kept my wallet healthy) There has to be some way to give the new players at least the illusion of being able to catch up at some point. However, this has the downside of increasing inflation over time...
I have no idea how you can balance these two factors out, or perhaps CCP is already doing it and gradual inflation is just inevitable.....
If it is inevitable... where does that leave the vets, they are imortal, unfathomably rich, inumerable sp's ... and are subject to an inflation that may never stop rising. Veritable gods where isk has no meaning....
This is where I'm thinking that they only thing they have left is to play the game from a role-play point of view, using their power and money to help create and destroy empires.. which is where the advent of the big 4 nation states can provide focus for the jaded vets.
